Interpretation
Simultaneous (Conference Interpreting)
The process of immediately translating the speaker’s statements into the various working languages of the meeting.
To that end, acoustically insulated interpretation booths are required.
Consecutive
The process of communicating a message from one language to another in segments (maximum 1 to 5 minutes each). The speaker pauses between ideas or thoughts to allow time for the interpreter to deliver the message in the target language based on their notes.

Recommended for a restricted audience (2 persons maximum). The interpreter sits next to the person(s) needing to understand the foreign language and whispers what is being said. If one listener wishes to take the floor, consecutive interpreting is then required.
